Crying & Unsettled Baby

Some babies take longer than others to settle after the birth and some do seem particularly miserable! This is always distressing for parents where there are no obvious medical problems but the baby appears uncomfortable, jumpy & inconsolable. If this is your first baby, it can distressing and exhausting.
Birth can be a shocking experience for babies, and Osteopaths believe that stresses and strains incurred during the birth process often contribute to unsettled behaviour. One of the most common presentations for Osteopaths is a small bundle of misery with no obvious cause.

Your Osteopath will take a detailed birth history and examine the baby's head and body for any retained moulding or signs of trauma, which can then be released using gentle rebalancing techniques. Babies often respond well with parents saying 'they were like a different child after the treatment'

Persistent Nasal Congestion
Newborns have to breathe through their noses for the first 2-3 months. If your baby is prone to excessive nasal congestion, it can make for a difficult start to life, with a miserable baby typically snuffling and snorting its way through feeding. Usually there is no obvious cause and small nasal passages are blamed.

Osteopaths often find these babies have had difficult births - slow, abnormal presentation, facial bruising etc. There may well be compression through the bones of the nose & forehead. Some parents report that Oseopathic release techniques can result in improved nasal drainage.
