| Hip, Knee and Foot Problems Babies can be born with a whole range of foot, ankle, knee and hip problems. Some are serious & will require medical intervention and possible surgery. Others are minor and possibly due to odd or cramped positions in the womb, or to developmental factors. Osteopaths consider that early manual treatment will help correct long term development of the hips and lower limb. Talipes Equinovarus Is a relatively common congenital deformity of the foot affecting more boys than girls. Its severity is assessed by how rigid the foot is - the more flexible the more minor the Talipes. Classical medical treatment uses casting which, if unsuccessful, is followed by surgery. Osteopathic procedures should be used as early as possible for best results. Treatment would be aimed at mobilising and balancing foot, ankle and lower leg mechanics. |
