The postnatal patient is often an under-treated group with all the focus on the baby. Following birth the mother’s musculo-skeletal system takes time to recover, and may experience problems in areas most stressed by pregnancy, birth and baby wearing. In this highly practical workshop, we will explore the postnatal body, and learn a range of techniques (direct & indirect) and management advice.
Throughout the day we will consider:
caesarian section & treatment of scar tissue
episiotomy, uterus & pelvic floor techniques
breast feeding and breast care techniques & thoracic pain
restoring normal A/P curves & integrity of abdominal canister
‘fascial drag’ and ‘sacral sag’ – indirect fascial & membraneous release techniques
recognising autoimmune diseases & postnatal depression.
taping techniques for abdomen & peripheries
Please note that this course does not include internal or
advanced visceral techniques
This workshop is suitable for Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Cranio-sacral therapists, Physiotherapists and all qualified practitioners who take a hands-on approach during pregnancy.

This is a Postgraduate Level workshop. To get the most out of this course you should:
- Be able to undertake an obstetric and post-natal health history and physical examination.
- Understand your legal obligations when treating postnatal patients, including cautions & contra-indications to hands-on treatment.
- Understand the need for medical referrals where indicated.
- Be clear that you are working within the guidelines of your particular professional or registering organisation
